Intermediate Newsletter 10/17

Hello VCS Families,

A Note from Dr. Hull

We deeply appreciate the role of our VCS community in our school's journey. Your prayers are a vital part of the work we do, and we ask for your continued support as we strive and do His work!

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.” — Psalm 1:1-2

3rd Grade ELA Testing Days! October 20–21

It’s time to show what we know! Our 3rd graders will be taking their ELA State Tests on Monday and Tuesday, October 20–21.

 Helpful Tips for Success:

  •  Get a good night’s sleep! Go to bed early so you’re rested and ready.

  •  Eat a healthy breakfast! Fuel your brain for focus and energy.

  •  Be on time! Testing starts right after morning announcements—being prompt helps your child start the day calmly and confidently.

Let’s do our best and make VCS proud!

 Important Reminders

After-School Care

  • Care is offered daily from 2:45 to 4:15 PM.

  • Students still here after 2:45 PM will be charged $10/day.

  • Pickup must be by 4:15 PM; late pickups incur an additional $10 charge.

  • Ongoing late pickups may require a meeting with the principal.

  • Reminder: Only families paying for Aftercare may use this service. Families not up to date will be scheduled for a meeting.

Arrival & Dismissal Safety

  • Pull all the way forward in the half circle to keep traffic moving.

  • For safety, do not drop students on the street—buses and cars come from multiple directions.

  • To ensure the safety of our students, we have a policy of no early dismissals between 1:45 and 2:20 PM. This is to coordinate with the safety of buses and dismissal. Please be assured that your child's safety is our top priority, and we are committed to it.

Attendance Matters

Every student in Ohio is required to attend school daily. It's not just a rule, but a key factor in their academic success. Research shows that strong attendance is directly linked to improved reading, academic performance, and higher graduation rates.

  • Students must arrive before 7:24 AM.

  • Absences require a note, email, or phone call to the office to be excused.

  • Students with 20 unexcused absences on EdChoice scholarships may lose eligibility.

  • Email excuses to Amanda Minnow: aminnow@vcsohio.org.

Uniforms

  • If your child has outgrown their uniforms, please consider donating them. These help us when students need a change during the day.

  • For uniform questions, please email Dolph Carroll at dcarroll@vcsohio.org.

Communication

Game & Activity Policy

Intermediate students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all games and activities. Students arriving without permission will be sent home. Students must remain in their seats with their parent/guardian during the game.
