How long have you been cheering, and what got you interested in cheerleading? I have been cheering since I was 3 years old. I didn’t really have an interest at first—my mom just wanted me to participate in something. She also did competitive cheer in high school and even traveled to places like Canada to perform.
What do you enjoy most about being a cheerleader? I enjoy the teamwork and energy the most. Cheering together and hyping up the crowd is really exciting.
What are some of your biggest strengths, both on and off the mat? On the mat, my biggest strengths are my focus, determination, and ability to work well with my teammates. Off the mat, I’m organized and a good communicator.
Do you have any role models or people who have influenced you in cheerleading? Yes. My biggest role models are experienced coaches and cheerleaders who show strong leadership, dedication, and positivity. I’m especially inspired by athletes who balance skill with teamwork and encouragement.
What are the most important skills for a cheerleader to have? Cheerleaders need strength, flexibility, teamwork, coordination, confidence, and strong communication.
How often do you train, and what does a typical practice or workout involve? I usually train 3–5 times a week. A typical practice includes stretching, conditioning, jumps, and full cheer or routine run-throughs to build strength, timing, and teamwork.
What are some tips for developing tumbling skills, like a standing back tuck? Build strong legs and core muscles, practice proper technique, train with a coach or spotter, use mats, and stay consistent and patient.
How does cheerleading training differ at different levels (e.g., high school vs. college)? High school cheer focuses more on basics, safety, and team building. College cheer is more intense and competitive, with harder stunts, advanced tumbling, longer practices, and higher physical demands.
What do you think makes a cheerleading team successful? A successful cheer team has strong teamwork, trust, consistent practice, good communication, a positive attitude, and dedicated leadership.
How do you stay positive and motivated, especially when the team is down? I stay positive by encouraging my teammates, focusing on our goals, celebrating small wins, and reminding everyone why we love cheer in the first place.
