The Wizard of Oz Takes the Stage at VCS

By VCS Senior JacQualyn Wiggins

Excitement is building at Valley Christian as the drama club prepares to take the stage with its highly anticipated production of The Wizard of Oz. Set to run from May 7–9, the musical promises to highlight the remarkable—and sometimes hidden—talents of students across the school.

The Wizard of Oz follows the story of Dorothy, who is swept from Kansas into the magical land of Oz, where she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. Together, they embark on a journey to meet the Wizard, discovering lessons about courage, heart, and the true meaning of home. The show blends humor, drama, and unforgettable music, making it a beloved classic and an ambitious choice for any school production.

Choosing this musical presents unique challenges for the cast, who will tackle complex choreography, demanding vocal numbers, and emotional scenes. The production will shine a spotlight on both lead performers and ensemble members. Students like Allyson Howard and Lauren Sargeant are preparing for standout roles, while the technical crew works behind the scenes to bring a polished, professional feel to the show.

Director Shelbi Clay and Co-Director Craig Carnahan emphasize that every role is essential. Their dedication, along with the creativity of the students, is already inspiring. As rehearsals begin, new skills and growth will emerge among the cast. Many students will be taking on roles or musical numbers they’ve never attempted before, discovering new strengths in singing, dancing, and stage performance.

As opening night approaches, anticipation is running high. Students, teachers, and community members are eager to see the drama club’s hard work come to life. The production is expected to be a celebration of talent, teamwork, and artistic expression.

With The Wizard of Oz, the Valley Christian drama club is ready to remind everyone that some of the most impressive talents are those waiting just behind the curtain—ready for their moment in the spotlight.
