In this interview, I asked Amyah what it’s like being a senior, the challenges she is facing, and what advice she would give to underclassmen. We also talked about track season and explored a few fun and personal questions that others may not know about her.

1. What is your favorite color?

Sage green

2. If you could give a shout-out or thank someone who helped you during your senior year, who would it be and why?

If I could, I would thank my family—especially my brothers. They’ve helped me through so much, including things most people don’t even know about. They’ve been there for me during some of my lowest moments, sometimes without even realizing it. Their support has meant more to me than words can express.

Thank you to my big brothers, Jemel Jenkins (Jr.) and Dailen Clark, and my little brother, Kayden Jenkins. I love you all more than you know. Jr., thank you for always guiding and protecting me, and for being someone I can always count on. Dailen, even though we aren’t blood, I’m grateful for the way you care for me like a sister. You’ve always been there to listen, give advice, and make me laugh. And Kayden, I love you so much—I’m going to miss you when I go to college. You make life more fun, and I’ll always cherish our memories.

I’m truly grateful for all of you for shaping who I am and showing me the meaning of family and loyalty. I’ll carry your love and lessons with me into the next chapter of my life.

3. What is one song or artist you listen to before school?

I don’t have a specific song I listen to before school, but lately I’ve been really into ASAP Rocky. I got into his music because of my big brothers, Jemel and Dailen. They introduced me to his music and helped me understand why it’s so great. We’re even going to his concert together this year, and I’m really excited.

4. If you could go back to freshman year and give yourself one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell myself that it’s okay to lose friends if it means putting yourself first. Don’t let people walk over you—your feelings and boundaries matter. Surround yourself with people who respect and support you, even if that means letting others go. Trust your instincts, be confident in your choices, and remember that growing up is about learning who you are and what you deserve.

5. What is one thing you’re going to miss that you never thought you would?

One thing I’ll miss is the staff. Over the years, I’ve grown very close to the teachers and staff at Valley. They’ve supported and encouraged me, and helped me grow into the person I am today. I’ll always be grateful for the impact they’ve had on my life.

6. What is one meal from the cafeteria you would actually eat again by choice?

Loaded tater tots with bacon, chicken, and cheese. It’s one of my favorite comfort foods—warm, filling, and always satisfying after a long day.

7. What is the best piece of advice you would give to a freshman?

Study hard and focus on your grades. There will be stressful days when you feel overwhelmed—that’s normal. I’ve even cried from stress before. But it does get better. The work you put in now will pay off later. Because I stayed focused, I now have great college and scholarship options. Keep going—it will be worth it.

8. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I would choose teleportation. I’d love to travel the world instantly and experience different cultures and environments. It would be amazing to learn how people live, understand their traditions, and see both the differences and similarities that connect us.

9. What are your plans after high school?

I plan to attend college and study forensic science. I’ve always loved watching forensic shows with my family and trying to solve the mystery before the reveal. I enjoy analyzing clues and thinking critically. I’m especially interested in unsolved and missing persons cases. Being able to help bring closure to families would mean so much to me.

10. What is one thing you were known for in your friend group?

I’m kind of the “mom” of the group. I look out for everyone, notice when something’s wrong, and try to keep the peace. I like making sure my friends feel safe and cared for.
