What inspired you to become a teacher?
God gave me a vision of becoming a Bible teacher and placed that desire on my heart.
What’s your favorite thing about working here?
There are so many things I love about working here that it’s hard to choose just one. I’m grateful to work in a place where I can openly talk about God, pray, and worship. I also love our staff and the team — truly a family — that we’ve built. If I had to pick one favorite, it would be helping students grow closer to God and witnessing how He is working in their lives. I genuinely love our students and feel blessed to know them, connect with them, and support them.
What’s your favorite way to build a positive classroom community?
I encourage vulnerability, compassion, trust, respect, and most importantly, love. The best way to cultivate those values is by modeling them myself and creating a safe space where students feel comfortable opening up and know they are not alone.
What’s your go-to drink or snack during school hours?
Chocolate chip cookies from the cafeteria — or prize candy from my game drawer when I have it!
How long have you been teaching?
This is my first full year teaching. I began during the second quarter of last year.
What keeps you motivated during the school year?
Seeing God work in students’ lives and watching their growth — especially spiritually.
Do you have a favorite teaching moment?
Not one specific moment, but I cherish the times when I see students united — helping, praying for, and encouraging one another.
What’s a goal you have this year?
To fully step into everything God has for me.
What’s a piece of advice you would give new teachers?
Take time to pour into your students, but also make sure you are being refilled by the Lord.
What’s a challenge you’ve overcome in your teaching career?
This year, I’ve gained much more confidence. It hasn’t been easy, but being placed in situations where I felt uncomfortable, unqualified, or even insecure has allowed me to see how God can use me through obedience. I’ve recognized the qualities and abilities He’s given me and have learned to trust Him more. I’m more confident now because I know everything is in God’s hands and according to His plan.
Miss Spivey’s faith, compassion, and heart for her students make a lasting impact in and beyond the classroom.
