Hello VCS Families,
A Note from Dr. Hull
We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support of our VCS families, which makes our school community strong and united. Your prayers and involvement are vital to our shared success.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night." — Psalm 1:1-2
Important Reminders
State Testing
State testing is quickly approaching, and it is very important that all students are present, on time, and ready to do their best!
Science State Testing (Grades 5 & 8): April 28th and 29th
Math State Testing: May 5th and 6th
Attendance is critical on these days. If a student misses a state test, they may risk losing their Ed Choice Scholarship.
To help your child succeed, please ensure they:
Get a good night's sleep
Eat a healthy breakfast
Arrive at school on time
State Testing Incentives (Grades 3–8)
We are excited to celebrate our students' hard work and achievement during state testing!
Students in grades 3–5 can win a bike, and students in grades 6–8 can win a drone!
Students in grades 3–8 will earn tickets to enter a drawing for a bike or drone based on their performance:
Improvement (Growth): 1 ticket
Proficient: 2 tickets
Accelerated: 4 tickets
Advanced: 6 tickets
In addition, every student who scores Proficient or above will receive a t-shirt!
We are proud of our students and look forward to celebrating their success!
Families are encouraged to take a moment during Teacher Appreciation Week to show gratitude to our teachers and staff for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to supporting our students every day.
After-School Care
Care is offered daily from 2:45 to 4:15 PM.
Students still here after 2:45 PM will be charged $10/day.
Pickup must be by 4:15 PM; late pickups incur an additional $10 charge.
Ongoing late pickups may require a meeting with the principal.
Reminder: Only families paying for Aftercare may use this service. Families not up to date will be scheduled for a meeting.
Arrival & Dismissal Safety
Pull all the way forward in the half circle for arrival and dismissal to keep traffic moving.
For safety, do not drop students on the street—buses and cars come from multiple directions.
To ensure student safety, we have a strict no-early-dismissal policy between 1:45 and 2:20 PM. This is to coordinate with bus safety and the dismissal process. Please be assured that your child's safety is our top priority, and we are unwaveringly committed to it.
Please ensure you have your KIDaccount card with you at dismissal to ensure a smoother process.
Attendance Matters
Every student in Ohio is required to attend school daily. It's not just a rule, but a key factor in their academic success. Research indicates that strong attendance is directly linked to improved reading skills, better academic performance, and higher graduation rates. We are committed to your academic success and are here to support you every step of the way.
Students must arrive before 7:24 AM.
Absences require a note, email, or phone call to the office to be excused.
Students with 20 unexcused absences on EdChoice scholarships may lose eligibility.
Email excuses to Amanda Minnow: aminnow@vcsohio.org.
Uniforms
If your child has outgrown their uniforms, please consider donating them. These help us when students need a change during the day.
For uniform questions, please email Dolph Carroll at dcarroll@vcsohio.org.
Communication
Check FACTS daily for grades, behavior, and attendance. Set up an account here.
To change dismissal (bus ↔ car), call 330-788-8088 by 1:45 PM.
