The VCS Track and Field team is officially underway! With practices beginning over the past few weeks, student-athletes have already been showing dedication, discipline, and school pride. From sprinters and distance runners to throwers and jumpers, the team has been working hard to prepare for upcoming meets.
Practices take place at YSU’s Watts Center or in the high school gym from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., focusing on improving technique and building teamwork. Coaches emphasize consistency, reminding athletes that success in track is not just about speed, but also about perseverance and effort. Many team members have set personal goals for the season, whether that means beating personal records, qualifying for championships, or simply improving each week.
One team member, senior Sania Stanley, shared her goal for the season: “Getting better in the 4x4 and improving my breathing while running.”
Her focus highlights an important lesson the team is learning—success is not just about running fast, but also about pacing and mental strength.
As the season begins, the team has already grown closer and more committed. Senior relay runner Dynasty Bratton said, “Everyone is more committed to the team.”
That commitment is evident during tough practices, where athletes continue to push themselves even when they are tired. Increased accountability and improved attendance have also helped strengthen the team’s unity and focus.
Team member Cyarah Brown emphasized how these experiences go beyond the track, saying, “Learning to keep going even when I’m tired will help me down the line.”
What makes the 2026 track season stand out at VCS is the team’s positive energy. With strong leadership and motivated athletes, this season is shaping up to be one full of growth, achievement, and school spirit.
